Mike Squatrito
Mr. Mike is a true second generation, SGM Ed Parker student and currently a 5th degree black belt, Associate Professor. He has proudly stepped up and is training with 10th degree, Mr. Joe Palanzo of the Worldwide Kenpo Karate Association in Baltimore, MD. Mr. Mike's former instructor, Mr. Wedlake also received training from Mr. Palanzo, who remains undisputedly one of the true seniors in our art of EPAK, receiving all of his promotions through 7th Degree directly from SGM, Parker. Mr. Mike began his training at LWKS which continued for over 12 years ultimately becoming the lead instructor for seven years. Participating in numerous Kenpo demonstrations throughout the southwest Florida area and assisting in many of the women's self defense seminars held at the studio. Mr. Mike was instrumental in the development of and featured in books Kenpo 101, Kenpo 301, Kenpo 501 and Kenpo 601. He has traveled throughout the United States and Europe for many seminars and competitions.
Mr. Mike holds an honor that a very limited number of martial arts competitors hold. In 2000, he competed and won the European Internationals taking first place in both forms and sparring. Most recently earned second in his self-defense division at the 2011 ISKA US Open World Championships held in Orlando. In 2010 appearing on ESPN, as a semi-finalist on stage in the prestigous US Open's Night of Champions earning a trophy in his self-defense division.
Mr. Mike is not only an instructor, but is a perpetual martial arts student himself, currently proudly continuing his education with Mr. Joe Palanzo. He has also expanded his martial arts training beyond Kenpo into the Filipino martial arts, and holds a Level One Certification in Inayan Eskrima training with Guru Kevin Coykendall. You will find Mr. Mike featured in the recently published book, Kenpo Continuum-Historical Studies of the Kenpo Community in America and Throughout the World.
Mr. Mike was born and raised in Massachusetts before coming to the southwest Florida area. He has been a resident in Lee County for nearly 20 years. He and his wife, Renee reside in Cape Coral, FL.
Mr. Mike most recent projects are the creation of DVDs of our Kenpo Basics & Basic Forms. These DVDs are not instructional in nature, but gives a visual aid to students in their at home practice and offers a refresher for more advanced students. Renee Squatrito
Ms. Renee is also a second generation Senior Grand Master Ed Parker student and is currently a 2nd degree black, associate instructor. She began martial arts training in 2001 at the former LWKS in Fort Myers. Ms. Renee is continuing her training, and is currently a proud student of Mr. Mike Squatrito. You will also find her featured in the book Kenpo 601.
Originally started Kenpo Karate with her children through the home schooling community. Successfully home schooled both her daughter and son to the high school and middle school levels, respectively. Experiencing and realizing first hand the positive affects martial arts brings to children. Building and forming positive development and good habits offers a lifetime of benefits. Ms. Renee instructs our youngest martial artists in our Little Dragons program.
Beyond kenpo she is an avid runner. Originally from Dover, Delaware was raised and has lived in Florida since childhood. She resides in Cape Coral with her husband, Mike and her son, Brandon.
Kimmie
Miss Kimmie is currently a 1st degree black belt, junior instructor who assists during our beginner, intermediate/advanced and all rank Karate Kids classes. She competes regularly in forms, weapons, and sparring and holds many first place trophies in all divisions. Kim's first ISKA US Open competition in 2009 won second place in traditional forms. Her 2010 US Open competitions won her a 1st Place win in Self-Defense & Continuous Sparring and a 2nd Place in Point Sparring. The 2011 US Open competed first time in the synchronized forms division in our two person Team GCKK, coming in third. She also took 3rd in her self-defense and 4th in traditional forms divisions.
She has been a student of Kenpo since age four. She is not the only practitioner in her family as her father, Steve also studies. Kimmie is a student at Mariner High School.
David
Mr. Dave is currently a 1st degree black belt, junior instructor assisting in our teens class. He competes regularly and most recently competed in the ISKA US Open competition in 2010 held in Orlando, Florida bringing home a first place win in his self-defense division.
He has been a student of Kenpo since he decided sitting on the outside watching his son, Eric take class wasn't enough. He and his son are both part of our leadership team. He and his family reside here in Cape Coral.
Eric
Mr. Eric is currently a candidate black belt. He is an assistant instructor assisting in our Intermediate/Advanced Karate Kids classes. He has been a student of kenpo for eight years, has earned his junior black belt through the kids program and is currently candidate black . Eric competes regularly in sparring, forms and weapons winning first places in all divisions entered. Eric competed in the ISKA's 2010 US Open and won 1st Place in Point Sparring & Self-Defense and 3rd Place in Continuous Sparring. He won the Grand Championships at the International Martial Arts Festival in Orlando taking the Florida State and National Title in point fighting. Most recently Eric won his division in continuous fighting at the Gator Nationals in Daytona Beach. Most recently competed at the 2011 ISKA US Open taking 2nd in his self defense and continuous sparring divisions.
Beyond kenpo, Eric competed in track and played basketball through middle school and is a student at Mariner High School.
Quinn
Mr. Quinn is currently 2nd degree brown belt. He is an assistant instructor assisting in our Little Dragons classes. He has been a student of Kenpo for five years, since he was age 8. He comes from a martial arts minded family, as his younger sister and mother are both students as well.
Beyond martial arts he is a student of music playing the guitar. Quinn was recently awarded the "Do the Right Thing" citizenship award from the CCPD for implementing an anti-bullying campaign in middle school. Quinn is a student at Mariner High School in Cape Coral.
Shelly
Ms. Shelly is currently a 3rd degree brown belt in our adult class and assists in our Little Dragons & teen classes. She has been a student of Kenpo for three years after watching both of her children take class, she decided to give it a try and has been diligent since. Her son is currently a brown belt and also on our Leadership Team while daughter has just recently earned her junior black-yellow rank.She and her family reside here in Cape Coral.
Jaden
Mr. Jaden is currently a green belt in our teens class. He assists in our beginner karate kids classes. He recently began competing and did well bringing home a trophy in his first sparring competition.
